right tea party members, republicans breaking ranks with their house majority leader eric cantor to vote for a plan, 85 house republicans voted for the deal, 151 republicans voted against the deal, including cantor, and that didn't sit well with the tea party. amy kremer tweeted this "i'm extremely disgusted with what happened in the house tonight. there will be consequences." and if you scan any of the big national paper this is morning, the headline might be that yes a deal was reached but how we got there is also making news. "the los angeles times" proclaimed "fiscal cliff plan clears house with gop divided." "the new york post" called it "leap of faith, gop breaks ranks to pass bill." jeff landry was on cnn's "early start" and acknowledged the party tension. >> we have to have a fight to determine what republicans actually stand for now. i think that what you saw november 6th was the fact that the republican establishment can't figure out what they stand for. >> over the next two months we could see a lot more political tension, that's for sure. the deal still has not addressed the

republicans include some very powerful figures. eric cantor, kevin mccarthy, second and third highest ranking republicans in the house among them. a new congress is sworn in tomorrow, so boehner facing a crucial vote. will there be a revolt against him or despite some very public failures and the fact he wasn't even at the center of this whole debt deal itself, will he just sail into the speakership any way? this is a pretty, you know, amazing story. there's been a real repudiation, but how is this vote going to go is this. >> people may not realize that the speaker of the house is elected by the entire house, not just his or her party, so there will be a vote on the house floor tomorrow and what is going to be really fascinating to watch, erin, is how the vote goes because the difference between republicans an democrats, if you do the math, if all democrats voted against him, all any opponent would need to do is get 17 republicans to vote against him and what then happens is he doesn't get the majority and they take another vote and if he doesn't get the majority, they take another vote. it

for the plan, majority leader eric cantor voted against it, as did kevin mccarthy, his chief whip. does that send a message to the chuckle head as your colleague said? if boehner and cantor is split, there's no reason we can't oppose the big deal? >> i'm proud of the speaker. he knew what needed to be done. he provided the cover for us to do, let the conference work its will. leadership is about leading and i think he did that. in the fights ahead of us, we're going to be awfully unified. there's no any difference in the ranks in terms of cutting spending and entitlements. i think the president played his best card in the opening round of the poker game last night. he's not going to get that one again. the revenue questions are over. it's all about spending and entitlement cuts. we'll seep how brave he is whether it comes to dealing with his party. >> do you think the leadership style by boehner is effective, though, to let your house caucus vent? it's almost the prodigal son, right? can you do that with a debt limit deal that could send the entire world in chaos? >> it's the trillion d

had from both the speaker and the majority leader eric cantor are iron clad. i think we're going to proceed. and i think that this recognizes the heartache and misery that both of our states, the region have suffered as a -- it has been as the governor emphasized, governor christie and in his press conference within the last hour or two, it has been over 66 days. i think it is about time congress responded. i'm pleased that the speaker and the majority leader have listened to our pleas. >> why not have voted on the senate bill and have it all done today? >> that was our hope, but, you know, it will happen. that's the bottom line. and it will happen at the amount that we think is required to meet the legitimate needs of the people of new jersey, new york and points north. >> we asked congressman king, the speaker tell you the reason why he abruptly yanked this from the calendar? >> as peter probably said, he alluded to the fact that there was so much going on, but did not give a specific reason. you might want to ask him that. for us, it is about getting critical aid to people who

minute. eric cantor did. stan hoyer among others not happy. >> i am deeply disappointed mr. speaker, and the people who have been damaged by hurricane sandy, including governor chris christie and governor cuomo, should be deeply disappointed and yes, angry, that this congress would adjourn without addressing the pain of our fellow citizens. >> bill: it is outrageous -- i have not been there personally but seen so much video of the horrific destruction in parts of new york and new jersey -- >> that is still there, yeah. >> bill: yeah, people still suffering, and the congress just basically saying, we don't care about this. >> yeah, it's just the house, right? because the senate had actually done some stuff, and had planned to come back one more day and deal with what the house passed and in the midst of all of this stuff at the last minute they just pulled it off of the agenda. and it was a bipartisan anger at the house leadership last night when that happened. >> bill: eleanor holmes norton representing the district of columbia will be joining us in studio abou

boehner voted yes, his number two majority leader eric cantor voted no and there will be another fiscal fight over the next two months, that's when military cuts are due. they kicked them down the road. that battle will now be joined over the next 60 days and we'll see what we get in the end after that. arthel: there is a limit on how many ad advil you can take in one day. bill: then you have to shift to ae alieve. we talked about military cuts and cuts to medicare, none of that was addressed in the drama we just watched unfold, none of it. arthel: no. let's get to this now the medical scare for america's top diplomat, secretary of state hillary clinton remains in a new york hospital where she is being treated with blood thinners for a blood clot lodged between her skull and her brain. molly henneberg live in washington with more. >> reporter: doctors say secretary clinton is making excellent progress, is in good spirits and should make a full recovery. she remains in new york presbyterian hospital as doctors monitor that brain clos. the the blood thinners should resolve it. clinton did

chairman paul ryan did vote in favor of the bill while eric cantor and congressman mccarthy voted against it. responding quite positively to that news, doug responding less positively. the dow jones up 180 and nasdaq up 50 points and s&p 24 points and ftse up 500 points -- not 500 points. and you can see the ftse up 2% on this news and look at what happened there in asia. hang seng up almost 3%. one clarification, i think i may have misspoken when i said all of this lasting one year. what i was describing was extension of unemployment benefits, that lasts one year. these other taxes and cuts and increases are now permanent. >> the fiscal cliff a verdict for now. now, we can look forward to something with the debt ceiling in the next two months. joining us in washington is former oklahoma governor frank keating and ceo of the american bankers association. joining us from philadelphia, former pennsylvania governor, ed rendell, also a cnbc contributor. i have to tell that joke again, governor. what do you call 47 millionaires sitting around watching the super bowl? >> i give up. >> the phila
